Preparing a site: The preflight checklist… and more
Over the years, I’ve seen a pattern in website building. Although every site is different, many go through the same process. Some steps are obvious, like procuring a domain name and setting up hosting. Some seem trivial, like crafting a favicon. Other steps get questioned, like why do we need to validate code, run spell check—again? And several the day after launch (“We did remove all the test data and lorem ipsum, right?”)
I started compiling checklists to fit different stages of design several years ago. They’re under constant revision as technology changes and I learn new web building techniques. Today I have two groups: preflight (start, a week before launch, a day before launch) and post-launch (a day after, a week after, six months after).
