How to capture a screenshot on an iOS device

Acquiring a pixel-perfect image of your iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone screen takes three steps:

  1. Hold down the “home— button on the bottom front of the device.
  2. Click the “sleep” button on the upper right corner of the device.
  3. Check your photos roll.

The trick is to press both the home and sleep buttons simeltaneously, but I found it easier to hold down one and click the other than try to make two clicks at once. My iPad screen shots matched the device’s native 1024×764 resolition. But although the official resolution of my 3G iPod is 320×480, screen captures measure 640×960 pixels.

Now you can remember that impossible Angry Birds level, make a quick note of how much Last.FM you’ve heard, or record specific configuration settings.
